Super into Pico 8 and game dev generally. Also way too much other stuff to be sustainable.

Back in June I was going through a major mental health episode so I threw myself into game dev with the Lazy Dev's shmup tutorial. It was the best thing I've ever done! Since then I ended up creating my first released game called Sun Escapes Me.

After distracting myself with Sun Escapes Me in the LOWREZJAM, I had to return to my first game dev project: a shmup based upon the events of Star Trek: First Contact! Using my fandom of Star Trek as fuel to create assets and push me through to get this done was extra helpful.

I've had to continue to battle mental illness so the project isn't 1000% what I want it to be but I am very proud of what I ended up with. It my hope that I can continue to produce games and continue to improve at the craft.

Please try out Star Trek: Collective Mischief and let me know what you think! It is available within the browser, Windows, MacOS, Linux, even an ARM version for the Raspberry Pi, and on Android over on Itch!

Save the Federation from those pesky Borg! Resistance is futile!

Thanks to @FuturecopLGF for his review of Sun Escapes Me! (https://futurecoplgf.newgrounds.com/news/post/1301342)

With that feedback I've taken some time to improve the game and hopefully address some of the biggest pain points that Lucas shared!

  • Start screen has an improved look and some music to boot!
  • You can no longer coast through level 1. Asteroids falling into the sun will significantly increase gravity. 4+ falling into the sun basically make the game impossible. A few more than that will counteract your ship's thrust and kill you fully.
  • Level progression is no longer based upon score and rather the amount of objects passing on the screen (whether destroyed or not.)
